…Tribute to Icon of Academic Unionism, Community Leadership.
The leadership and entire membership of ORLUZURUMEE extend warm congratulations to our revered elder, mentor and illustrious son, Comrade Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie, on the special recognition accorded him by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Imo State University (IMSU) Chapter.
The event, a Special Congress convened in his honour, is a fitting tribute to a man whose contributions to academic unionism and higher education in Nigeria are legendary. Prof. Awuzie stands as a towering figure in the intellectual and advocacy space, having served with distinction as Chairperson of ASUU-IMSU and later as National President of ASUU.
Throughout his tenure, he championed the cause of academic staff with uncommon passion, integrity, and a deep commitment to the pursuit of quality and accessible education. His principled leadership and courageous stance in defense of university autonomy and the welfare of academics have left an indelible mark on the history of higher education in Nigeria.
Beyond the ivory tower, Prof. Awuzie has remained a guiding light within Orlu Zone. As Vice Chairman of the ORLUZURUMEE Elders Council, he has continued to lend his wisdom and influence in shaping the affairs of our community. Notably, his role in the emergence of the current ORLUZURUMEE executive reflects his unwavering commitment to unity development, and the political relevance of Orlu people.
We join the entire ASUU family, the IMSU community, and all admirers of excellence and selfless service in celebrating this well-deserved honour.
May the Almighty continue to grant Prof. Awuzie strength, long life and many more accomplishments in service to humanity.
